Sicilian mayor strips in protest
The mayor of a small (unnamed) Sicilian town
undressed in the town’s main square this week to
protest against waste disposal policies.
The mayor wrapped himself in the Italian flag during
the protest, telling reporters he was demonstrating
against a decision taken by Sicily’s president
requiring towns to pay the costs of using a regional
dump sites. The mayor said towns will be ruined
financially and risk a garbage crisis like the one in
Campania (Naples), a statement refuted by Sicily’s president,
who said that towns should pay for essential waste
services as a civic duty, and that there is no risk of a
garbage crisis in Sicily

Berlusconi declares garbage disposal crisis over
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, in Naples
July 18 for a cabinet meeting, announced that the
garbage crisis in the Campania region is over, but
pointed out that will take three years to resolve
Campania’s garbage problem definitively. Berlusconi
said the main goal is construction of four incinerators
one of which should be finished by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Naples authorities are looking for a site,
likely in the east side of Naples, to build the incinerator,
after the Agnano plan was cancelled.
If you look at this picture and imagin an entire city like this you would say that the problem is still very alive.
